Acne Scarring is every teenager’s worst nightmare.
When you are a teenager you want perfectly clear, beautiful skin, not pimple scars. No mater how you take care of your skin, it seems as if pimples is something that is going to happen to every teenager at one point in their teen year, just like growth spurts, and puberty. Between thirteen and nineteen years of age, this is the age of the “acne and pimple scarring”, and is also the time the dermatologists make most of their money. Some teenagers, as soon as they see that first pimple, panic and want their parents to make an appointment with a dermatologist.
Acne scars form at the site of an injury to the tissue, and are visual reminders of the injury and tissue repair. In the case of acne, the injury is caused by the body’s inflammatory response to sebum, which is the oily substance that is produced by the sebaceous glands. These are glands that are mostly found on the neck, face, chest, and back. In addition to sebum, you will also find bacteria and dead cells in the plugged sebaceous follicle, which are hair follicle.
Some of the types of Acne Scarring are:
- Ice Pick Scars, which usually occur on the cheek and are small with a jagged edge and steep sides.
- Depressed fibrotic scars are usually quite large with steep sides and sharp edges.
- Atrophic macules are usually fairly small when they occur on the face but maybe a centimeter or larger on the body.
- Follicular macular atrophy is more likely to occur on the chest or back of a person.
- Keloid scars are caused by increased tissue formation and can be from 1 millimeter to 1 centimeter.
The white blood cells and inflammatory molecule may remain at the site of active pimple scars for day or weeks. This can result in a acne scarring in people who are susceptible to scarring. With the variation between scarring in one person and another, indicates that some people scar more than others.
To help prevent acne scarring, you need to treat it early in its course and for as long as necessary. The more the inflammation can be prevented, the more likely pimple scars can be prevented. If you are one of those that get pimple scars frequently, you should be under the care of a Dermatologist.
There are a number of treatments available for acne scarring through dermatologic surgery.
You should choose the type of treatment that is best suited for in terms of your type of skin, the cost, and what you want the treatment to accomplish. Some of the treatments have the possibility of causing more acne scarring. Before you seek the services of a dermatologist, you need to analyze the way you feel about pimple scars and the severity of your pimple scars.
Some of the treatments could include Collagen injection, autologous fat transfer, Demabrasion, Microdemabrasion, laser treatment, skin surgery, skin grafting, and treatment of keloids to get rid of Acne Scarring.
